Open Source Climate Report

Get ready for CSRD with our unique open source CO2e report

Committed to transparency and accountability

Each month our customers receive a detailed analysis of carbon emissions associated with our data center operations.

Direct Power Consumption — Customer Equipment

The direct customer power consumption is measured at the customer equipment interface. The measuring data is obtained in kWh and is the same that is invoiced the customer. EcoDataCenter power purchase mix is then applied to distribute between sources.

The embedded carbon from LCA calculations (kg CO2e/kWh) for the specific power sources is then multiplied with the actual consumed power. This give a specific kg CO2e value.

Power Current month Current month (kg CO2e) Accumulated (LTM) Start Jan ‘22(kg CO2e)
Customer Equipment Power Consumption 730 000 kWh --- ---
Wind Power 25% – Life Cycle Analysis 182 500 kWh 2 212 11 060
Hydro Power 75% – Life Cycle Analysis 547 500 kWh 4 977 24 884
Total --- 7 189 35 943

Shared Power Consumption - Data Center Infrastructure

To operate a data center the total power consumption consists of customer specific power consumption and everything else needed to provide the service (office, lights, etc.). This is the Datacenter Infrastructure. The reporting method divides this shared power consumption between all customers in a specific data center according to customer size.

The size is based on the customer specific power consumption percentage of the total data center power consumption. Directly correlating to the data center PUE.

Power Current month Current month (kg CO2e) Accumulated (LTM) Start Jan ‘22(kg CO2e)
Data Center Shared Power Consumption 141 277 kWh --- ---
Wind Power 25% – Life Cycle Analysis 35 319 kWh 428 2 553
Hydro Power 75% – Life Cycle Analysis 105 958 kWh 963 5 744
Total --- 1 391 8 296

Shared Direct Data Center Reserve Power Systems

Every month EcoDataCenter conducts a test run of the reserve power, diesel generators, to ensure availability. These test runs consume diesel. The customer size percentage of the data center is the input value to distribute the CO2e emission from the test runs.

Power Current month Current month (kg CO2e) Accumulated (LTM) Start Jan ‘22(kg CO2e)
Test Run Hydrocarbons/Diesel - LCA 999 kWh 264 ---
Total --- 264 1 319

Shared Embedded Building Construction

EcoDataCenter performs LCA of each specific data center building. The LCA of the particular building that each customer is hosted in, is the source of the Shared embodied building construction.

Actual customer power consumption of the data center total power capacity of the data center building is used to distribute the monthly depreciation of the embodied emission. The applied method allocates a monthly CO2e value based on the total LCA value from the building, depreciated over 40 years.

Power Current month Current month (kg CO2e) Accumulated (LTM) Start Jan ‘22(kg CO2e)
Data Center B, Falun - LCA --- 66 ---
Total --- 66 337

Shared Embedded Data Center Infrastructure

EcoDataCenter also conducts calculations based on subcontractor data of data center infrastructure such as batteries, cooling equipment, etc. An LCA database is developed with a total CO2e amount. The total amount is distributed to each customer according to size, the same principle as mentioned above.

The depreciation (lifetime) is estimated for infrastructure components to be 15 years. EcoDataCenter also has a re-use policy where no components are considered waste after 15 years.

Power Current month Current month (kg CO2e) Accumulated (LTM) Start Jan ‘22(kg CO2e)
Data Center B, Falun - LCA --- 339 ---
Total --- 339 1 743
