Sweden tops innovation report

Sweden is the most innovative country in the EU, according to the latest edition of the Global Innovation Index (GII) released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The GII ranks Sweden first out of all 28 EU countries, and fourth in the world, with a score of 86.5. The report praises Sweden for its strong innovation ecosystem, which is characterized by a high level of public and private R&D spending, a large number of patent applications and a high number of innovative companies.

The report also singles out Sweden for its strong performance in theknowledge and technology outputs category, which includes indicators such as the number of scientific and technical articles published, the number of patent applications filed and the number of high-tech exports.

Other countries in the top five of the EU innovation ranking are Denmark (second), the Netherlands (third), Finland (fifth) and Ireland (sixth).
